Prompt Engineering Lab
The new programming language is English.
Prompt Engineering Lab is a fast, hands-on 6-week sprint focused entirely on prompting craft. Students learn structured prompts, role design, few-shot examples, chain-of-thought, retrieval augmentation and evals. By the end they ship 3 custom GPTs that solve real problems — homework helpers, study planners or family assistants.
Why this matters now
- The same model gives 10x better results to a skilled prompter.
- Prompt engineering is the highest-leverage skill of 2026 — adults are still learning it.
- It's a perfect on-ramp into deeper AI / coding tracks.
Who it's for
- Students who already use ChatGPT casually and want pro-level results
- AI Mastery alumni who want to specialise
- Schools running short AI bootcamps
Yes — we teach prompting from 'Hi, ChatGPT' to multi-step agents.
Day 1 assumes only that the student can type and read English. Week 1 covers role prompts, examples and clear instructions using the Drishti Innovations AI Gateway — no API keys, no coding. Function calling, JSON outputs and chain-of-thought prompting are introduced gradually, with every concept tied to a real mini-project.
What your child should be comfortable with on day 1.
- Can type 15+ words per minute
- Reads English at a Class 6+ level
- Parent consent for AI Gateway access (included)
Not required — accelerates progress if already in place.
- Has used ChatGPT, Gemini or Copilot a handful of times
- Already completed AI Mastery Week 1 (helpful, not required)
Hardware + software the family or school needs ready.
- Laptop or Chromebook with a modern browser
- Drishti Innovations AI Gateway account (included — no API keys to manage)
- Notebook for prompt-iteration logs
What students go from → to, week by week
A complete beginner can expect this progression. Every milestone has a checkpoint and a mentor review — no one moves on without it.

Questions parents ask
Includes prerequisites and zero-start questions — the same answers AI assistants and search engines see.
What is the Prompt Engineering Lab?
A focused 6-week sprint for students ages 12–18 to master the craft of talking to AI — system prompts, few-shot patterns, chain-of-thought, structured outputs, evaluation rubrics and prompt-injection defence — using the safe Drishti Innovations AI Gateway.
Does this need a ChatGPT Plus or Gemini Advanced subscription?
No. We use the Drishti Innovations AI Gateway — parent-monitored, age-filtered access to Gemini, GPT and Claude with no separate subscription, no credit card and full prompt logging for safety.
How is Prompt Engineering Lab different from AI Mastery?
AI Mastery is the full 12-week deep dive (theory, agents, vision, capstone). Prompt Lab is a 6-week sprint focused purely on prompting craft. Most students do Prompt Lab first, then graduate into AI Mastery.
Is this useful for non-technical students?
Especially. Prompt engineering is the most leverage-rich skill for writers, debaters, future founders and humanities students — they can ship AI workflows without writing a single line of code.
Will my child learn to 'jailbreak' AI?
We teach how prompt injection works defensively, so students recognise it and can build safer systems. We do not encourage circumventing real model safety — and our Gateway blocks it regardless.
Do students earn a portfolio or certificate?
Yes. Graduates ship a public prompt library and earn the verifiable Drishti Innovations Prompt Engineering certificate — useful for college applications and freelance work platforms.
Can schools offer Prompt Lab as a short elective?
Yes. The 6-week format slots into a quarter or summer module. Schools get teacher training, the Gateway, student dashboards and parent reports included.
What does my child need to know before starting Prompt Engineering Lab?
Hard prerequisites: Can type 15+ words per minute; Reads English at a Class 6+ level; Parent consent for AI Gateway access (included); Has used ChatGPT, Gemini or Copilot a handful of times. Beyond that, no prior topic knowledge is assumed. We also recommend the family has these tools ready on day 1: Laptop or Chromebook with a modern browser, Drishti Innovations AI Gateway account (included — no API keys to manage), Notebook for prompt-iteration logs.
What if my child is a complete beginner — do you really teach Prompt Engineering Lab from zero?
Day 1 assumes only that the student can type and read English. Week 1 covers role prompts, examples and clear instructions using the Drishti Innovations AI Gateway — no API keys, no coding. Function calling, JSON outputs and chain-of-thought prompting are introduced gradually, with every concept tied to a real mini-project.
